Food Guidelines
- Purina one is OK; I would avoid giving orijen
- We recommend all dogs eat foods that meet the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) guidelines.
- Recommended diets are formulated by a veterinary nutritionist. Diets manufactured by Purina, Hills, Royal Canin and Eukanuba meet these guidelines. Many smaller dog food companies do not.
- There is evidence that some boutique brands, exotic ingredients and grain-free diets (especially those high in peas/legumes/lentils) are associated with a heart disease called dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs.
